August 13, Saturday
Rain has quite, but it was foggy and overcast. Went out for breakfast and took the dogs for a walk. Sun came out so we headed into Glacier Nation Park. Stopped at the Information center after I got my Golden Eagle Pass for being over 62. We took the Going to the Sun Highway west through the park. It was 50 mile but took about 2 hours to go one way. It was restricted to cars less than 21 feet and 8 feet wide including mirrors. We saw a lot of motorcycle sine the Sturges rally had just completed. It was a great drive with two large lakes, ST. Mary and McDonald. We went over Logan Pass, over 7,300 feet. The rest of the way down to McDonald lake was carved out of vertical cliff 1000s of feet high. The road was built in 1930 and paved in 1952. It was a great view and we moved as fast as we needed about 35 to 45. We stopped at the stream that feeds McDonald Lake and took some photos of water as clear as a swimming pool. We finish the Highway and turned around and headed back.
